On the second day of the UNI GYŐR HOCKEY CUP we were up against Sapientia U23 from Transylvania, on Thursday evening the Nemak Ice Hall hosted a real “green-white” duel.

The mirror image of our previous match was repeated, this time we managed to “shock” the visitors with a first minute goal, our captain Matyi Odnoga scored. No more goals were scored in the third period, so the boys went into the break with an advantage.

The Transylvanian team managed to start the second part of the game better, scoring the equalizer and the leading goal within a few minutes through Lázár and Galusnyák. Fortunately, we managed to respond quickly again, with Matyi Odnoga’ s second goal, and 5 minutes before the end of the period, Bence Makovics ensured that we could go into the break with a lead.

The first half of the last half brought no goals, and in the 53rd minute Bence Makovics scored his second goal, increasing our lead to two. The final brought some nice excitement, with 3 minutes to go Dear reduced the visitors’ deficit to one goal, then Sapientia, who stormed with 6 field players in the last minute, came close to extra time several times, but Ákos Mészáros our goalkeeper did a great job, and with 20 seconds to go Mark Almási secured our victory with an empty-goal.

We had great games against EUHL teams in the cup, and hope to play them in the next season in a regular season. Go UNI GYŐR ETO!
