We got off to a dream start with István Szűcs’s goal in the 37th second, but in the second period, MAC Budapest AHC scored four power-play goals and won the showdown between the Western Group’s two unbeaten teams in Győr 4–2.
We made our debut in front of our home crowd with an 11–1 victory: Benedek Madácsi scored five goals against the Kárpáti Farkasok, we had 73 shots on goal, and 420 spectators cheered us on from the stands.
We progressed from the Hungarian Cup qualifiers with a 4–0 victory, keeping a clean sheet: at the Tüskecsarnok in Budapest, Benedek Madácsi scored twice, whilst Martin Szeles saved all 30 shots.
We began our title defence in the Andersen League with a 9–0 victory without conceding a single goal: in Zalaegerszeg, we won all three periods 3–0, with Bence Makovics scoring a hat-trick.
A penalty now stays on after a goal is conceded, but a shorthanded goal ends it, and in overtime there is no going back to the neutral zone. Here is what changes and what last season’s numbers say.
We kick off the Andersen League in Zalaegerszeg on 26 September; two days later we’ll be taking to the ice in Budapest for the Hungarian Cup; and on 3 October, our home season gets underway against the Kárpáti Farkasok.
