On Wednesday night we played our season opener in the EUHL, the international university league, as guests of Philosophers Nitra at Tipsport Arena. Our team will be competing in two leagues (Andersen League and EUHL) and the Hungarian Cup in the 23/24 season, so there will be no shortage of excitement for our players and fans.

After the anthems and the ceremonial puck drop, the teams went at each other with great momentum, the first five minutes were a head-scratcher, with both teams creating their own chances. To our delight, we managed to convert one of these situations into a goal, Makovics scoring after a smart save. A few minutes later, Madácsi got into a very good position, which he used relentlessly, so we were leading by 2 goals at home to Nitra. We had to wait for the answer until the end of the period, Kral scored for the home team, but we still had the lead at the break.

In the second half the tempo did not slow down, Madácsi shone again and increased the lead to two, but the answer was not missed, Svitac scored and no more goals were scored until the whistle.

In the final third, you could feel that the extreme rhythm and relentless body-to-body combat had left its mark on our team, but the boys fought heroically to the end. The home side equalised right from the start with a Novodomsky goal, and then took the lead for the first time with 10 minutes to go through Kovac. With 2 minutes to go, Kral made the final score 5:3.

It was a promising start to a season that still has some big battles ahead, with good moves and great fighting spirit from the boys in a completely new arena. On the 30th, they will have another chance to prove themselves in the EUHL, once again on the road, as guests of Gladiators Trencin.

Next week, the home competitions will start: on Wednesday, October 4, we will play Jászberény in the Hungarian Cup, while on Saturday, October 7, we will host the Sportországi Cápák in the Andersen League at the Győr Ice Sports Centre!
