Saturday evening saw the decisive match for the bronze medal in the Andersen League 2022/23 season. We had the chance to play against DAB-ASP at home, in the Nemak Ice Hall, and with the 18:00 start time, everything was set for a great night, which didn’t disappoint.

The top two of the regular season skated out onto the ice, hungry for success, and from the first minute you could feel that the crowd was going to see a game rich in goals. We only had to wait 3 minutes for the first goal, which fortunately came from a Győr stick, Barnabás Majoross was able to take advantage of our man advantage. 5 minutes later Azari could equalize, but in the 13th minute the score was level. In the second minute, Richárd Horváth scored a beautiful long range bomb to regain the lead. Shortly before the break, Dunaújváros were able to take advantage of our man advantage with Kis’ goal, and the teams went into the 15-minute break with an open sheet.

The second period brought back the best moments of the whole season, with real, technical hockey and home goals. Again, we only had to wait about 3 minutes for the first goal and again Majoross scored, after a great pass from Almási. Less than half a minute later, Márk Almási not only gave us a goal pass, but also scored from distance to convert another man advantage. Our number 12 player did not sit back satisfied, a few minutes later he scored again after a nice solo play, increasing our lead to three. The Győr scoring spree was not over yet, in the 33rd minute. We managed to lead a nice counter attack in the second minute, which was capped off by Filipp Nesterov. We had a devastating third period, and we could look forward to the third period with a reassuring 4 goal lead.

By the last period DAB-ASP had noticeably changed the rhythm, in the first half of the period they managed to reduce our lead with 2 quick goals by Azari and Szabó, but we managed to catch this negative trend, in the 56th minute we were able to score a goal. In the second minute, a long-range bomb from Bence Makovics ensured that there was no more excitement than necessary at the end. In the last minute, the visitors added an empty-goalie line-up to their man advantage, hoping to finish the game with a beauty goal, but we managed to get the puck, which Almási put into the opponent’s empty net with 4 seconds to go.

After that, the medal ceremony took place, where first our excellent player, Márk Nagy received the award for the most successful player of the season from Leventje Sipos, the Secretary General of the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation, and then our team members received the well-deserved bronze medal.

It was a great end to a successful season, thank you for the tireless encouragement of our enthusiastic audience, we will continue in the autumn, hopefully on more stages!
