On Saturday night we played our first home game in the Andersen League, the newcomer Egerszegi Titans were our guests in the Győr Jégsport Központ. As expected, the meeting started with a strong dominance of Győr, but for a good 10 minutes we couldn’t find the opening to the opponent’s net.
In the 11. István Szűcs broke the “silence” in the first minute, which was followed by a real shower of goals (1-0). Just 4 minutes later Bence Makovics jumped out after a nice tackle and confidently mated Tóth (2-0). 1 minute later, the last goal of the period was scored, Barnabás Majoross let a shot from the blue line find its way in (3-0). The second period was a real fiesta in terms of goals: almost immediately after the midway break, Bence Dézsi scored in a man advantage situation (4-0). A few minutes later, the visitors managed to “break out” of the game in front of their goal, after a nice puck acquisition, two of them had a clean start towards Simo’s goal, but they failed to complete the attack, and István Szűcs did not make the same mistake from the counterattack (5-0). After that, the pattern of the first period was repeated, a Szűcs goal was quickly followed by a goal from Bence Makovics (6-0). Halfway through the period, Barnabás Majoross Barnabás Majoross broke into the goal between several defenders and tricked the Eger goalkeeper (7-0). After the goal, the home team changed goalkeepers, Szalai replaced Tóth. There was not much time to pick up the rhythm, within a minute István Szűcs was on the end of a rebound and scored his 3rd goal of the game (8-0). 5 minutes before the whistle Martin Sipák got the puck in his own zone and shook off his defenders, he made no mistake against the goalie (9-0). The series wasn’t over yet, a minute and a half before the break our young U18 player Márton Molnár scored his first goal in the league (10-0)! According to the rules, after a 10 goal difference, a “running clock” went into effect for the remainder of the game, in which case no time is stopped for stoppages of play. In the first half of the last period no goal was scored, the “silence” was broken by Botond Fekete, who was in front of the goal, “only” in the way of Bence Dézsi, who made a clear position for the puck with an acrobatic jump (see highlighted picture).
Soon after, Dániel Csölle scored on a shot from long range (12-0).With 5 minutes to go, Márk Nagy, who missed most of last season due to injury, scored (13-0), and in the final moment, Márton Molnár put his stick in the way of the puck (14-0), setting the final score.
A goal-filled game for the fans in the Andersen League home debut.
On Tuesday, the boys will face a much tougher matchup as the EUHL 24/25 season begins, with last year’s finalists Gladiators Trencin as our first opponents.
