Wednesday night was the return leg of the third round of the Hungarian Cup, where our opponent was UTE from the Erste League. In the first match at Újpest Ice Hall, the home team won 10:4, so there was no realistic chance to qualify, but the stakes were still high: the other matches of the round had been played the day before, so we knew that if the difference was less than four goals (10 in total), our team would be the most successful non-first division team in the cup. In the first period, the game was surprisingly balanced, both in terms of shots on goal and the number of situations. To the delight of the home crowd, the first goal came from a Győr striker: Bence Makovics made a great catch of a puck and carried the attack through, nicely lifting it into the top left corner! (1-0) It looked as if we could go into the break with the lead, but 12 seconds before the whistle, Kiss scored on a rebound, which was a pity. (1-1) The second period was clearly dominated by the visitors, the shots on goal at 1:25 of the period say it all. Despite this, we defended until the last breath, which was broken only twice: first in the 28th minute Dansereau, then 3 minutes later Szabó scored. (1-3) In the last half we managed to mobilize some reserves, the opponent could not break the goal as often and we managed to launch a more dangerous counterattack. In the 48th minute Kovács scored UTE’s 4th goal, so the excitement was left for the last minutes to see if we could keep the 3 goal difference. With a disciplined game, the boys managed to do the job, winning the title of the most successful – non first division – team in the Hungarian Cup!

We can end the cup with our heads held high as the team made it to the third round for the first time in their history and did a decent job against higher ranked teams.

Well done guys!
