2024 started really well for us, we won 3 away games in the Andersen League. That’s why we were looking forward to our first home game, where we hosted Goodwill Pharma Szeged on Wednesday night at the Győr Jégsport Központ.

The first part of the meeting was positive, after only 3 minutes Benedek Madácsi scored, and here we were still confident that we had seen the first part of a process. Unfortunately, this was not the case, although we had almost twice as many shots on goal as our opponents in the first period, they were able to convert their chances better. First Biakin and then Danilov scored, so we went into the break with a one goal deficit.

In the second period we turned the gears up, but so did Szeged, in the fifth minute Bence Makovics received a 5+20 penalty for an unfortunate collision, the opponent’s player, Zalan Ujj had to be nursed, and later he was hospitalized for observation. As it turned out afterwards, this was the key moment of the meeting, as Szeged scored 2 goals in the 5-minute penalty (Jakab and Balogh) , which increased their lead to 3. Later on, they managed to counter-attack well in a man-down situation(Morvay), which gave us a lesson for the last period.

We came out for the last period with great momentum, but very soon another “blow” came, Biakin scored again less than a minute after the puck was thrown in. Slowly we started to eat away at the opponent’s game, first Vas Márk, then Richárd Horváth found the net again after a long time, but just as we found our momentum, Morvay could goal again. In the last minutes we did our best, but the deficit was too big and we could only manage to score some goals through Norbert Lévai and Dániel Csölle.

This is not what we expected from our first home game, but we have to get up and move on. On the 31st we will host Nitra in an EUHL match.
