We have already played an exciting match against Lehel HC from Jászberény in the Hungarian Cup, and now we have also had the chance to face each other in the Andersen League. Both teams were unbeaten in the league so far, and the stakes were to keep/lose this series.
From the beginning of the first period you could feel the superiority of Győr, the boys were able to play their own game, which resulted in a goal in the 9th minute, when Dániel Csölle fired in a shot from distance. Less than a minute and a half later Norbert Lévai was able to increase our lead to 2, after a beautiful pass from Martin Sipák. 5 minutes before the break we saw a “replay” of the previous goal, only in shepherd’s crook: Lévai gave an unguardable pass to Martin Sipák. But 20 seconds later there was a “sobering” goal, the visitors found the gap in the shield, and Mercurio did not flinch in front of goal. But the game wasn’t over yet, Nono Lévai was able to finish a nice solo attack in a man advantage situation, and the boys went into the break with a reassuring 3-goal lead.
Head coach Szilárd Rusznyák gave the Jászberény team some effective instructions during the break, and they came out in the second period with a noticeably different tempo. And the result came in, Görbe had a clear shot from distance, Kornakker was helpless. Shortly afterwards we had a double man down, which we could not defend, and our comfortable lead was reduced to 1 goal, it was time for a change of pace. It happened, and 2 minutes later the home crowd could celebrate another Sipák goal. No more goals were scored in the period, so we went into the break with a 2 goal lead.
In the third period we managed to bring back the confident, dominant play of the first period. We started the last period with a man advantage, and Benedek Madácsi showed no mercy, in the first minute he could increase our lead to 3 again. The Lévai-Sipák “duo” felt the game today, they had a hand in almost every Győr goal, and 5 minutes before the end they assisted again, this time Márk Koczkás was able to finish the goal, setting the final score.
We confidently won the derby between the two league leaders, thus maintaining our unbeaten streak in the Andersen League.
Next week the boys will have another tough week, on Thursday the three-day UNI GYŐR HOCKEY CUP II starts, where we will play 3 consecutive games in the EUHL.
