The audience of the Győr Jégsport Központ was in for a real showdown on Saturday night, as our team hosted the undefeated Lehel HC in the Andersen League. The two teams already have a “history” with each other, last year we played a close match in the final, and in the Hungarian Cup last year and this year we met in the first round. So far, our team has emerged victorious from every “clash”, so it was to be expected that the team from Jászság would come to Győr with a desire to prove themselves. The fans were not to blame, as in addition to a good home crowd, a special contingent from Jászberény was present in the arena, cheering their team on in a commendable manner. The first period started with a noticeable Győr advantage, the puck was mostly in the visitors’ third, but there were several dangerous counter attacks, which finally came to fruition after 13 minutes: Prilutski was left completely free, he just had to “push” the puck in (0-1). After that we managed to create a lot of chances, but the precise finishing was not our strong point this night. After another counterattack Pinczés increased the lead to two goals (0-2). Half a minute later Benedek Madácsi stole the puck and scored our first goal (1-2). Although we scored three times as many goals as our opponents in the first 20 minutes, they were able to convert their chances better and went into the break with the lead. The second period didn’t start too well either: 1 minute after the start Pinczés received another good pass and didn’t make a mistake (1-3). 10 minutes later Márk Nagy managed to take advantage of a man advantage situation and reduced the visitors’ lead to one goal (2-3). A minute before the break we managed to score the equalizer after a nice counter attack, Bence Dézsi scored (3-3), so the boys could go to rest with a level score. The last period didn’t start too brightly, we just got a new addition from the previous period, Strenk received a pass two meters from the goal and didn’t miss (3-4). Soon after, we were again in a man disadvantage, which our opponent took advantage of, Pukhliak received a nice puck from behind the net and bombed it into Róth’ s goal (3-5). Two minutes later, the Jászberény team could again start a counterattack, which was finished by Antal (3-6). We were still in the first half of the period, where we could take advantage of a man advantage: István Szűcs scored from Dézsi’s pass (4-6). In the 50th minute Strenk’s shot rebounded off Róth, but Nyika was alert and bombed it in, as it turned out later, setting the final score (4-7). In the last 10 minutes there were no more goals, Márk Nagy picked up another final disciplinary penalty for pushing from behind, so we had no chance to catch up.
Although we dominated the game in the first 2 periods, we couldn’t convert our chances into goals and our opponent took advantage of it relentlessly, as is natural at this level.
Moving on, next Saturday we visit Vasas, and on the 26th we have a Hungarian Cup rematch with MAC Ikonok.
