An exceptional hockey celebration for all fans who visited the Győr Jégsport Központ: our team, UNI GYŐR ETO HC, the team of Széchenyi University of Győr, played for the Andersen League Challenge Cup against LEHEL HC from Jászberény, and after a confident home and a hard-fought away win, the score was 2:0 in the match that lasted 3 games.

Once again, the atmosphere was great, with more than 600 people watching and applauding as the little skaters of our junior club accompanied the players onto the pitch. The ceremonial puck toss was performed by Dalma Sebestyén, swimmer of UNI-Győr Swimming SE, the recent Hungarian champion of the 200m women’s medley and 4x100m medley relay.

As in our previous home game, we put a lot of pressure on the visitors’ goal from the whistle, but we didn’t score, and the first goal didn’t come from Győr: taking advantage of a man advantage, the Jászberény team converted their first dangerous attack into a goal through Tiurikov! (0-1)
Two minutes later, the Russian goal scorer was sent off, which we used to good effect: Benedek Madácsi shot powerfully into the goal, which was well touched by Richárd Horváth. (1-1)
Fortunately, the second half of the period was clearly about Győr’s superiority. A 14. The visitors made a very bad substitution in the second minute, which is unforgivable at this level: Majoross saw the opportunity and passed the puck to Almasi, who was able to put Benedek Madácsi in a penalty position, and he is not used to making mistakes in such situations. (2-1)
A little over 3 minutes later we had a man advantage and the crowd witnessed a beautiful play: Jábor Bendegúz ” Makovics Bence ” Nagy Márk got the puck in the net, Eőry had no chance. (3-1)
2 minutes before the whistle, Márk Almási started from the goal line with a great lift to Márk Vas, who took his chance and shot to the bottom left. (4-1)
The boys went into the break with a comfortable lead, you could feel that they would be crowned champions in the Andersen League in Győr today.

The second period was more evenly matched, with chances on both sides, but no goals were scored. We gained a big psychological advantage by defending a double man disadvantage. A 34. and in the 13th minute, Márk Almási took advantage of the last seconds of our man advantage and stitched it into the long top corner. (5-1)

Fouls and fights were present throughout the match, and you could feel the tension that has been building up throughout the season on the players of both teams. Half a minute after the 5. after the home goal, in a commotion near the boards, the 21-man of the visitors, just coming back from the penalty bench, pushed Ádám Kiss twice with a stick from behind, for which he was of course sent off, but he still turned back, and then our goalie, Dániel Kornakker “pulled” one on him, which exploded the powder keg and a small brawl broke out on the ice.
In the end, 5-5 players from both teams were sent to the penalty bench and later to the dressing room with a final sending off. With this, a shaky LEHEL line-up could not continue the game and the match ended with a 5:1 home lead.

Even though the meeting ended prematurely, the outpouring of joy from both players and spectators was indescribable.

The medals and the trophy were presented by Károly Radnai (Managing Director of Andersen Hungary), Eszter Szombati-Serfőző (Managing Director of Uni Pro Sport Ltd.) and Dr. Tamás Gyömörei (Head of the SZE Sports and Recreation Centre).

A fantastic season for the team: the EUHL 7. we won the MEFOB, and in the ANDERSEN LIGA we won 24 out of 27 matches to take the championship title!
We are especially happy that BENEDEK MADÁCSI became the most successful player of the season!

The Széchenyi University team proved that the special career model they dreamed of 2 years ago (hockey ” diploma ” sport and professional career) has fulfilled their hopes: 15 of our players are university students, six of which were SZE students this season!
