Last night our team played its first game at the UNIVERSITY OF GYŐR HOCKEY CUP, which is held for the third time in the Győr Ice Sports Centre. Our opening opponent was Sabers Oswiecim, whom we already met in November at the Malopolska Winter Cup organized by them. There – surprisingly – we managed to win a close game, and we wanted to repeat the same this time.
From the first minute of the game, it was clear that the Polish team was looking for a fight back, and the crowd was treated to a high tempo, hard-fought battle. There were chances on both sides in the first period, but it wasn’t until the 16th minute that the Sabers(Baida) struck hard on an unlucky bounce and went into the break with a one-goal lead. 0-1
The second period didn’t start too well for our team either, Sabers soon increased their lead to two, Gurshman scored from long range.0-2
10 minutes later the visitors were again the happy ones, they came out of a huge confusion in front of goal with Hrebeniuk’s goal. 0-3
But the boys didn’t give up, they kept fighting and it paid off, Odnoga Mátyás received a nice pass and drove the puck past the Polish goalkeeper into the net with a ruthless cold blood! 1-3
Unfortunately, in the last minute the guests again tried to score from distance, through Melnyk, and the difference was 3 goals again and the last break was coming. 1-4
The teams still had some power left for the last period, the intensity of the pace didn’t change, but the first goal of the period came from Győr’s stick: the Auschwitz goalkeeper came out for the puck in the 56th minute with a very bad pace, and Benedek Madácsi doesn’t usually let such a thing go unpunished! 2-4
A few minutes later, the guests took advantage of a turnover, which Mos was able to put cleanly into the net. 2-5
In the last minute, we tried to play an empty net, but the guests managed to get the puck and put it into the net from the third line, setting the final score.
The Polish team came to Győr with a very strong team and set the pace throughout the match. The boys put up a good fight, but in this match the opponent was the “sharper” one.
We have two more games in the cup, we have to give everything for those 6 points!
