In addition to the Andersen League, the EUHL competition will continue for our team in 2024, on Wednesday night we hosted Philosophers Nitra at home.

The match had a serious stake, as the team from Nitra is our main opponent on the way to the playoffs, and in case of defeat the chance to reach the top six would have almost certainly been lost.

Both teams were aware of the stakes, and from the first minute onwards the game was a high tempo, evenly matched game with missed chances on both sides. After 11 minutes the first goal of the game was scored, Márk Vas gave the puck to Norbert Lévai, who came from far away and left no chance to the opponent’s goalkeeper. No more goals were scored in this period, so the boys went into the break with the lead.

The second period continued to be a fierce battle, but in the middle of the period the visitors managed to take advantage of one of their man-advantage chances and equalized through Slavik. Four minutes before the whistle, the “Philosophers” were again in the last seconds of their man advantage, but after an aggressive attack by Ádám Kiss, the visitors’ goalkeeper was left without a stick, which was successfully exploited by István Farkas, giving the team the lead again.

Although we came out of the last period with a one-goal lead, you could feel that anything could happen in this game. Another Győr goal was very important, which was fortunately “delivered” by Mátyás Odnoga in the middle of the third act. After that, the visiting team turned up the heat, increased the pressure, and with three minutes to go – after a timeout – they brought down their goalkeeper and tried to close the gap with 6 field players. Although we came within a hair’s breadth of another goal several times, the visitors(Rakus) managed to score their second goal, one goal away from extra time.
The last minute of the match was a real fight, Nitra tried with all their might to get the equalizer, but luckily we managed to defend those 60 seconds and get a very important win.

After the timeout, the players were on high alert and a small brawl broke out on the ice, but fortunately no one was seriously injured.

On Saturday we have another home game, the Mac Ikonok visit Győr, and the next day we will play away with the Sportországi Cápák.
