2024’s penultimate home Andersen League match was played on Saturday night, with the Óbuda Hockey Academy as our guests. Our last two “league” meetings have not gone as hoped, so it was important to bring back our best form and get the 3 points. Several key players were forced to miss the game due to illnesses and suspensions, so the boys had a tough task ahead of them. The superiority of Győr was not in question from the first minutes of the match, but our attacks were very well neutralized by the guests, and we had to wait for the first and only goal of the period for almost ten minutes: Bence Dézsi received a nice long pass almost to the goalkeeper’s feet, which he calmly shot past him (1-0). The home pressure remained for the second period, but the Budapest side managed to shift up a gear, which they managed to convert into a goal in the fifth minute: after a pinched crosspass, Lászlóffy was able to get going and made no mistake with a one-on-one (1-1). The equaliser also gave us a boost, and less than a minute later we were back in the lead: after a successful party, a poorly hit long-range shot bounced off the visitors’ goalkeeper and straight onto the stick of Bendegúz Jábor Bendegúz Jábor (2-1). Shortly afterwards, Tovkach Yulian ingeniously got the puck at the half-court and carried the puck all the way, then shot the ball into the top right corner, which was awarded by the referees after a video refereeing (3-1). There was still some gunpowder left in Győr’s strikers, from a cavalcade behind the goal the empty-netter Martin Sipák received a nice pass and Farkas had no chance to get back (4-1). We managed to respond to the opponent’s change of rhythm and went into the second break with a reassuring 3-goal lead. In the last period we were able to increase the lead, Bence Dézsi scored in a man advantage situation with surgical precision (5-1). But OHA did not give up either, in the 47th minute two of them managed to clear the puck in the goal of Nándi Róth and again Lászlóffy scored (5-2). It would not have been nice if the last goal had not come from the home goal, but luckily the boys made sure that it didn’t: Botond Fekete gave Bencie Makovics a beautiful half-court pass, after which the shot did not find the net, but the rebound was not missed by Richárd Horváth (6-2).
We had to win this – according to the paperwork – sure 3 points, but it was not an easy task, but our team was able to rise to the challenge.
Next week the boys have a busy schedule: on Tuesday we play a Hungarian Cup game at the home of Erste League UTE, and on Friday-Saturday-Sunday we have a tour to Poland in the EUHL, where we will play 3 teams in 3 days.
