The last matches of the UNIVERSITY OF GY\u0150R HOCKEY CUP III<\/strong> were played on Saturday. In the morning the team of Uniza<\/strong> from Zsolna faced the Sabers<\/strong> from Auschwitz. The Poles came with a very strong squad and showed good form throughout, winning their last match and thus winning the tournament with a perfect record. <\/p>\n

The last match of the cup was in the afternoon, where our team played against Philosophers<\/strong> from Opatija. Traditionally we play “pepper” matches with the Slovakian team, and this time was no different. <\/p>\n

It was only in the seventh minute of the first period when we found ourselves in a difficult situation, the guests had a double man advantage, which they managed to take advantage of through Kudrna<\/em>.0-1 Before the end of the period we had the same opportunity, but we failed to take advantage of it, the boys went into the first break with a one goal advantage. <\/p>\n

In the second period, the game-changing turn came in the seventh minute, after a minor scuffle, the referees decided to send Benc\u00e9 Makovics<\/strong> from Gy\u0151rie and Simon Homola<\/em>from nyitra to the dressing room with a permanent sending off. Together with the extra penalty, we went into a man disadvantage, which was again well exploited by the visitors, Bendak<\/em> was left free. 0-2
\nA minute and a half before the whistle, however, the home crowd could rejoice, as M\u00e1ty\u00e1s Odnoga<\/strong> scored a beautiful goal from an almost impossible angle. 1-2
\nUnfortunately, the remaining 90 seconds did not pass without incident, 2 seconds before the break Istv\u00e1n Sz\u0171cs<\/strong> was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. <\/p>\n

We faced a difficult last third, we had to play without two key players (Bence Makovics, Istv\u00e1n Sz\u0171cs) and we started the last 20 minutes with a man disadvantage. And the “Philosophers” took advantage of this, barely 30 seconds after the puck was thrown in, the guests scored their third goal. 1-3
\nAs during the whole game, we could score more goals than our opponent, but we could only convert our superiority into a goal in the last minutes .<\/strong> 2-3
\nWe did our best in the final period to force overtime, but the visitors defended with discipline and took home the 3 points. <\/p>\n

The two final penalties sealed the match, and it was decided that Nyitra took home the 2nd place trophy, while we finished in 3rd place. <\/b><\/p>\n

We have 4 games left in the EUHL regular season and we have a great chance to make the playoffs.<\/b><\/p>\n
